On July 1, 2020, amendments to the Law «On Legal Status of Foreign Citizens and Stateless Persons in the Republic of Belarus» come into force.
The changes, amongst others, relate to the registration period for temporarily staying foreigners and temporary residence permits:
- The registration period for temporarily staying foreigners in the departments of citizenship and migration is increased from 5 to 10 days.
- High-skilled foreign workers can obtain a temporary residence permit for a period of up to 2 years (previously - maximum of 1 year).
Among other changes:
- a number of reasons for obtaining a temporary residence permit by foreigners who come to the Republic of Belarus to study is increased;
- the required period of residence in the Republic of Belarus for foreigners to obtain a permanent residence permit is decreased from 7 years to 5 years (for high-skilled workers - to 3 years);
the minimum amount of investments in the Republic of Belarus that gives a foreigner the right to obtain a permanent residence permit is changed from 150,000 euros to 15 thousand basic amounts (now Br405,000).
